Description
Artist story about sunset on the Tetons and ‘Heavens Ablaze’:
Usually, sunset on the Tetons means the mountains fade to black in a “cardboard cutout” approximation of themselves.
Shafts of light may pierce through the deepest canyons, but usually sunrise produces the best light.
Unless clouds blanket the sky; then sunset on the Tetons can be extraordinary.
Not only do rays of light still filter through the canyons and provide wonderfully atmospheric effects, but the sky also comes alive.
Vivid oranges, yellows, reds, pinks, and purples lighten the sky long after most people think the sunset is over.
This encore performance is even enough to cast reflected light on the Tetons and give them a deeper, richer dimension than they usually have at sunset.
And when you see the the sky reflected on the Snake River or another water source in the valley, you’re witnessing pure gold.
Because of these effects, I once painted a similar painting to “Heavens Ablaze” on the day of my grandson’s birth.
I called the painting, “Light from Heaven – Kael’s Mountains.”
The shafts of light I painted that day and for “Heavens Ablaze” do approximate the cheerful warmth grandkids have brought into my life.
