Why Soltek Easel?
Since 1969, Jim Wilcox has been an advocate for painting from life. For a landscape painter, that means traveling with your gear.
But when Wilcox set out to revolutionize plein air painting with Soltek, artists bought about 1.1 easels per year trying to find one that wouldn’t break down, weighed little, and was easy to set up and carry.
Jim couldn’t find that easel.
So starting in the 1990s, he leaned on his knowledge of design and drafting to create the Soltek Easel.
The design process took eight years, but by 1999 he launched the Soltek Easel with enough preorders to pay for itself.
Nearly 20 years later, thousands of Solteks have traveled around the globe helping artists create their best work.
Without the plein-air painting pains Jim Wilcox had grown accustomed to using a heavy French box easel.
Soltek Easel vs. Soltek Pro
Both the Soltek Easel and Soltek Pro are the same all-in-one plein air easel that come with a neutral gray palette, clip for carrying a wet canvas, universal adjustment tool, and a carrying strap.
However, for taller artists or those who paint on uneven ground, the Soltek Pro stands up to 6 inches taller than the original Soltek Easel.
