Sometimes the heavens and the rivers align.
By that I mean a brilliant sunset over Grand Teton National Park glints pure gold off the Snake River.
That gorgeous lighting effect is the subject of “Gilding the Lilies,” combined with the Tetons, of course.
“Gilding the lily” is a term that means to adorn or beautify something that’s already perfect.
And that’s exactly how I feel when I see a scene like this.
With the last golden rays of sunset spilling through Cascade Canyon and onto the waters of Jackson Hole, it’s hard to argue that this idiom fits perfectly.
