THE PAINTING: ICONS OF STRING LAKE
This brand new release by Jim Wilcox depicts String Lake, one of the most picturesque and accessible lakes in Grand Teton National Park.

THE SUBJECT
String Lake is a gorgeous destination in the Tetons with water rarely deeper than 7 or 8 feet and a placid surface that can reflect a lot of grandeur.
Before Jim Wilcox retired from art workshops, he often took classes of 20 students to String Lake, knowing each one of them could easily find a unique and beautiful subject.
His son Mark even captured one image of a workshop at String Lake that landed Jim and a student on the cover of American Artist’s Workshop Magazine. (His student also happened to be painting on a Soltek Easel, which Jim spent 8 years developing and still sells today.)
It’s not uncommon to find wildlife taking a dip in the lake including bears, wolves, elk, and a variety of other big game local to the Tetons.
And it’s even more common to find locals swimming in the lake underneath the iconic mountain views.
FROM THE ARTIST
String Lake has long been one of my favorite places.
The shallow, clear water offers both people and wildlife a great place to cool off in the mountain summer.
The smell of fresh wild huckleberries puts a tang in the air in late summer.
The endless views are always worth putting on a canvas.
Because it’s tough to argue with the gorgeous vistas of the Tetons that rise up from the surface of this placid lake in Grand Teton National Park.
